Words and Wandering

From sunny SoCal to the rainy Atlantic coast, from Toronto's bustling crowds to the vast, empty landscape of northern Saskatchewan.

No, those aren't settings in my books. But they are some of the places I've lived, so it's no surprise my characters love to roam the world too!

Falwell's Honor (Avalon Books, 2008) takes its heroine on a perilous journey from France to England during Elizabeth I's early reign—and straight into a plot to steal the throne.

In Madeleine M., World Sleuth, 12-year-old Madeleine jets from Geneva to London and hops aboard a daring midnight train ride through the Italian Alps as she hunts for her kidnapped dad.

And my current project follows the lighthearted antics of a modern-day Renaissance girl all the way from Pontypridd to Manhattan (watch for updates at the end of 2010).

Even the hardiest traveller enjoys coming home though, and from 2007 to mid-2010 my writing "home" was the role of Managing Editor at The Voice Magazine. (You'll find plenty of my musings, editorials, and feature articles in the archives there.)

My days are devoted to writing novels full-time now, but I keep my hand in at The Voice with a weekly freelance column, "Write Stuff," about (you guessed it) all things literary.

So, tempting as it is to leave you with the writerly vision of a cozy den, complete with crackling fire and loyal dog (or cat) curled nearby, the reality runs more like this: a wonderful husband equally bitten by the travel bug, a suitcase big enough to hold my yoga mat, and an up-to-date passport—all ready for the next adventure!
